Member Spotlight: Malini Basu ‘25-Present

Malini Basu is a current ALT living and working in Matsuyama-shi, Ehime-ken. Prior to embarking on a new transition to Japan through the JET Program, she taught art classes at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, as well as gained experience as a teaching assistant at a Montessori-style school. When Malini isn’t teaching English to junior high school or elementary students, she can be found exploring her new home; these adventures never fail to inspire new comic strips, as seen in the work she shared with JETAAMN. Malini is also very proud of her students. The last four are examples of comics her students made when she asked them in class: “What’s in your bag?” 本当頑張りました!ありがとうございましたマリニ先生!

Matsuyama-shi's mascot, Mikyan, is a puppy made out of an orange. The images shows a small plushie-version of the mascot being won in a claw machine and then added to Malini Basu's everyday bag.
This comic is written entirely in Japanese. It describes picking out a protection charm, called an omamori, from a Japanese Buddhist temple. This charm is now on Malini Basu`s bag.
